To Love is to Risk

I was inspired by a reading assignement we had to do for our literarturer class about LOVE.  the difference between willing to love, what we expect and "falling in love".

People have been raised on the notion of "true love" but in truth only a few people expirience it in real life. Others are just attracted to someone by their appearace, behaviour. Its a connection you can have with many people throughout a lifetime and its your look for love that makes it calculated, unreal. It is a look for partnership, nothing more. People believe thats what should happen and it kills the TRUE definition of love.

Falling in love with a person, is a soul connection of wanting and recognising everything about a person. Its not about providing a fake self which must attract others until all layers are taken away to reveal a true self. An attraction is when you have uncovered all the layers untill there's nothing left and the connection is broken, and one believes he cannot be loved, only deepening his belief that he must create a fake-self.
True love is wanting to be with a person despite all the consequences, things that yo'll have to give up on the way. Its a comporomise, it must obtain work, the difficulties in a relationship dont always show lack of love but a determination to evercome it and be a better self. To love is to change, to take a journey with a partner to fulfill who you can becoma nd love youself for it.

Most people draw away from true love, because they fear of exposure. To love is to know everything about the other and relieve of all obstacles. People shy away from this, because they are afraid to show and give up their identity. Sometimes we prefer to be in a relationship that we can stand back from, and distance ourselves.

We look for the love we think we deserve, and most of the time have to compromise a partnership. We must step back from our expectations and evaluate ourselves and the love we give to determine the love we should get.

We are taught that true love is forever. It demands work and continued sustanability. Courage. No fear.

I promise that i will try to keep from looking for love. I can wait for it to come. There's a feeling of frustration of everything thats been taken away and starting from the begining, but so much more is gained than lost. There's time.
I will be an independant person, risking myself to attain love and in order to grow more comfortable in my surroundings. I dont' need anyone, I will risk because I have nothing to lose and everyghing to gain.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S

So no one told you life was going to be this way
Your jobs a joke, you're broke
Your love life's DOA
Seems like you're always stuck in second gear
Or it hasn't been your day, your week
Your month or even your year!!

'cause:
 I'll be there for you!!
(when the rain starts to pour)
I'll be there for you
(as you're there for me tooo)

a Month in Chicago

soo.... hi from Chicago.

I've told this story like a hundred times- everybody back home wants to know how everything is and how i'm doing (which is really nice, don't get me wrong) but what eventually happens is that i'm fed up about telling how i am over and over again. i feel like a robot just saying this.

long story short for the five hundredth time- we arrived about three and a half weeks ago. meanwhile, not knowing many people we've been spending our time going around the city and getting to know all the cool places. now Chicago is one of the most amazing places i've been to. (oh, i think one of my parents just woke up and are about to tell me off that i'm still awake... :O) anyway- this is such a lively city! i mean, all the Americans are so nicee and there are so many places to visit! just walking around our small little area, there are sooo many restaurants and diners and places to eat from all around the world. there are amazing shopping stores and shops, that's like the one thing all Americans are addicted to- buying, and especially on sale! outside our front window there's Michigan lake and its so beautiful! right now its still sunny and warm, so many people like to run and cycle along the shoreline where there's an amazing trail in a park-like area. I've already gone running there a couple of times all ready. and from all the food that I've been eating here, i must say that its a must! there is so much american junk food, seriously, its really hard to get a decent meal around here that doesn't involve chips, a chunk of cheese, extra large coke, a ton of ranch or any other fattening things. seriously, that's all i do these days, eat and eat and eat. okay, enough of that.

there are also a lot of festivals and special events taking place here. just to start with all the music festivals, its amazing! seriously, there was the lollapalooza just a couple of days after we arrived here which was a three day festival with world wide known artists performing like RHCP.. and after the festival Coldplay had a show here and also there are a couple of Israeli artists coming to perform. Tomorrow, or more likely today, Asaf Avidan and his group are coming to perform and i have tickets! its going to be soo good, especially cause I've already seen him on show once. but this is still going to be something... and then David Brozack the famous jazz player is going to be here. At the end of august there's actually a jazz festival which is going to take place in the millenium park. i don't know many of the artists but there is one show that I'm really looking forward to- which is a show in memory of Ella Fitzgerald. i love her singing- she has such an amazing voice! and i especially love her singing duets with Louis Armstrong. Speaking of him, he has an amazing cover for the song "what a wonderful world" i think its called, which is a song that i've listened to a lot since coming here, a cover by Israel Kawaaokoalsterkvoeirvo'ole or whatever he's called, to this song together with somewhere over the rainbow.

other events we've been to is the Northalsted market which was LGBT event. we put up an Israeli stand telling people about how lovely Israel is and its gay population. i was surprised how many people were interested... i also went to a really awesome fair- called the Renaissance Fair which actually took place in Milwaukee. it was about an hours drive and i went whith some friends from dad's office. it was themed from the medieval times and there were people walking around in costumes from the age, there were shows and shops and foods from that period. most of the women who dressed up were really slutty, most of them wearing huge corsages and all the boobs pouring out. it was really disgusting. and ugly. and then, we saw a really fun show, called "The Mud Show". it was so funny! it really didn't have a point, except there were two sides and they each had to duel each other in order to show which was the "better side". so that was where the crowd was involved and we had to do singing and applauding and cheering really loud. the "actors" or the presenters or whatever you want to call them at one point just jumped into the mud and pushed their faces in first and then went for the audience, kissing a couple of people. it was really funny, i'll post pictures once i get them (i took them on the other guys phone cause silly me didn't have a camera and i'm still working  on getting my new iphone! i am so waiting for it, right now i have non).
other than that there was a little bit of dueling knights in shining armer, fire whips and some great rides including a carousel, pony rides, archery and others... i came home with a candle souvenier for mum and an ink bottle, which just called out my name.

also, we went to the water and air show, took the architectural tour on the river, went up to the John Hancock observatory, saw a couple of movies, went to the zoo, watched quite a few movies already, went to a wedding, etc, etc, etc... oh- and to the Art Institute museum which was really good- we got to see the Roi Lichtenstein gallery. it was AWESOME!

So, on the other than the time that we havent been walking around, its mostly being at home for me. school starts on the fourth of september, right after labor day yet another shopping holiday. i'm sortof excited, i don't know what to expect...
and then most of the time at home, i've become addicted to a new television program- FRIENDS!! its soo funny, it can really help my mood and i just love it! it seriously makes me laugh. Out Loud.
and apart from sitting a lot on facebook and skype, i've also made a Derp Doll.

Good Job!

Running 5 k.

okay, now thats something that i've neglected a long time.

running hasn't exactly been at the top of my priority list through out the year. it is pretty much my fault, i've become soooo lazy that i'm already ashamed of myself. besides tennis that i used to have lessons every week my sport activity hasn't been really .. abundant.

anyway, there was this one time that i did manage to get my fat ass off the couch and i went running with a friend. it was awesome! even after not running in many months, eventually i got in the pace and we actually ran 10 k without as much as practice!! i was so proud of myself but now it just leaves me excuseless...

after doing sport i feel so good with myself, a sort of feeling of accomplishment. and then again when i don't manage to make myself get up and do something with myself, i feel really bad as if i'm letting me down...

oh well, i've certainly go mental issues...

Nightime Murmurs

Okay so right now its about 4;30 in the morning and i'm not in the least bit tired. in the backround you can hear mum shouting something about me not wearing tights. let her stop me.

anyway, we're all up and packing. to be honest i've already finished which was surprising but mum and dad are still going on sorting through towels and old socks. yesterday mum and i were zapping through the TV settings and what do we find out? 5 days before we get the hell out of here we realize we can watch a ton on TV series FREE! including my alleged Grey's Anatomy. Well, since then for two nights straight i've been watching it on the Tv instead on my lousy computer. the only difference is the subtitles, the volume and the quality so no big deal. meanwhile i think mum is also getting interested....

so the countdown currently stands at four days to go before the flight. we've already had all the goodbye parties but its still just the close friends and family we'll be seeing. my friends planed my a surprise party this monday and it was amazing! it was at my friend's grandmother's house (i know) but it was huge! the house had a regular 25 meter pool, a tennis court and i think two jaquesies (how on earth do you spell that!?)

to be honest i kinda ruined their surprise because having my suspicions i eventually found out about it and by that time nobody was troubling to deny it. anyway, it was AWESOME! everybody was waiting for me at the house, and the pretence of going in was that my friend had to drop off a towel... humph...

once i was inside i was ambushed with hugs and tons and people, trying to look surprised all the same.. we were in the pool for several hours from 16:30 to about 21:00- having about an hour break for food and a trivia!! it was really sweet, but i would've expected so much more! i would've been highly disappointed if the wouldn' t have know my colour eyes or hair (both questions on the test). i would've made soo much fun of myself! but i guess they were being nice... oh! and also my friends wrote and really cool rap about me! it was only a couple of seconds long but it was funnyyyyy!

i think only now the realization is starting to hit me. once i see the house empty and once i'll really be at the airport i'll truly understand the huge realization that i'm not going back. i'm going to start a new life right now in chicago and leave everything behind. i'm optimistic about so many things but then again my friend told me not to wish for things that will only disappoint me in the end. right now what other option do i have?

i've told myself that i'm going to keep in touch with my friends, or at least the ones that matter to me but how long is that going to last? i mean, sure, i'll write postcards and letters  and believe it or not created a postcard kit including everything from stickers to paper to coloured envelopes. i get really easily excited by these things, i have everything organized inside my suitcase. thats it. i'm moving in only four days and i've already suitcased most of my stuff. i hat living by the bags, its so irritating! having everything in place and trying to stay tidy...

anyway, i'll do the best i can. i have aobut 25 days in chicago to do whatever the hell i wish- which is a Lot of time. besides, i'm not even going to have all my stuff with me. I'm for now stuck with 20 kilo worth of stuff taken in my suitcase and another two boxes of clothes and stuff that is being flown directly over to our house in chicago while we stop in new york and will arrive shortly after us.

during that time what am i going to do? no use trying to organize my room, but i desperately plan on getting to know the town better and exploringg. i plan on a lot of drawing and computer time. i think a little bit of arts and crafts wont damage anything and Shopping. i'm counting on that.

anyway, i've got a lot of mission stuff to get going on! maybe right now i'll actually have time...

Hey guys!

Picture Parade- DIY

my wedgie making shleykess
my bleach crop top
gangsta pumpkin style
kiss me right under my mustache
ass

indie rock is in the house tonight

this is how i cut my bleach shirt- i based it on this model. it works out well!!

lately i've started having a new obsession- i really really like indie style. i think i was influenced by a couple of my girlfriends that have started dressing this way and i've realized its really amazing! i really like indie with a mix of "street" kind of wear, holey and loose- crop tops type.

i've looked at ideas on the web and its shirts and jeans that are really pretty and even fun to make.
i made it my little DIY project.

i was over at a  friends house and while she was away at a lesson i stayed with her sister, a sewing machine and some old t-shirts and we just played around!! we cut and stitched with the sewing machine, and she taught me tricks how to make holes in jeans and shirts.

the trick is: cut a hole in your garment, and in order to pull out the string you just gently pull on them with a needle. it works so well!  on the way back home i had a huge impulse to try it myself that in a moment i was at the second hand shop near my house and buying clothing that i could "fix up". i came home and made a cut pair of short jeans that i cut and an amazing shirt using bleach!!!! the result was sooo good and ifelt proud of myself. i don't like spending money on expensive clothes, so most of my wardrobe is from the second hand shop, seriously. some people find it disgusting but i honestly dont care!!

tomorrow clauds is coming over !! they're flying in the afternoon and mum and i are going to pick them up from the airport= a long day! mum is pushing me to go to sleep but i don't know when my next chance will  be of posting anything, as mirra and hugh (my friends mum and brother) will be sleeping in my room an clauds and i get the coach in the living room! it opens up into a bed, but that at least means we'll have the TV!

Joy.

THE CLOCK TICKS

this is going to be my house in just three short weeks. its FUCKING AWESOME!!!
( i invaded google maps and looked around the whole area. you can see the marine which is just outside the window, and the roads and shops. its funny cause you can actually see the people in their everyday lives, frozen at one angle caught from space, like the guy in the picture...)

here we are on the 10th of july, and there are only 20 more days for me in Israel. On the way to Chicago we plan to stay in New York a couple of days. its really exciting for me because the longest i've ever stayed in NY is only a day!! you always here so much about new york city and we're going to see the sights, visit museums and parks, i plan on maybe a lot of shopping and getting to know the city better!

NY is one hour flight from Chicago, and around 6 hours on the bus or so. when i'll actually make the trip i might know more accurately cause right now these might be rumors...
anyway, so i'm pretty much spending my time well right now doing absolutely - nothing. most of my friends have got jobs for the summer but i thought- i have only one more month to spend in israel with my friends, why should i work instead of having fun! in any other circumstance i would have found me a job, a loong time ago... but thinkin of the situation i didn't feel the urge, especially cause right now i've got NOTHING on my mind and i'm literally freeee!!!! its something you can seriously appreciate after the sort of year that i've had...

talking about saying goodbye, today was the last time that i saw my grandparents before our departure. they're off tomorrow for a long trip in the US and they wont be coming back to Israel before our flight, i actually contemplated getting insulted- i mean, they're going on this huge trip to the US, which is exactly where we're going to be and they're not even bothered to come visit us in our new home!? they are visiting EVERYBODY except us!! not to mention the fact we wont be seeing them for a year...

i'm really attached to my grandparents and in the last period i've spent a lot of time over at their house. we talk on the phone something like once every two days, sometimes even every day.
when i was over their house today, we went over gran's old jewelery which she doesn't wear anymore. she told me anything i wanted, i could have.

now one of my saddest obsessions is to jewelery. i buy myself the cheap stuff, but all the other "real" jewellery have a story, and are symbolic. for example- i have two pairs of rings on me, that i've worn every sing day for the past two years. they rarely come off. (i think i might've mentioned them in the past, but for a review..)
one of them is from my mum- from when she was 16. its silver and has an eggshaped blob which is hollow on the inside but from above there is a lovely silver spiral on a black backround. the other one my grandmother gave to me but apparently it used to belong to my aunt when she was small.  i've had it wayy back and its small and slightly broad, and its also silver and is black with tiny mosaics of flowers.
today, my grandmother showed me a necklace that she made herself and i immediately connected to it. it looks very simple on a very thin and delicate silver string. the pendant looks like an upside down sail in the wind and just looking at it come to me so many different associations. my art teacher would probably say its "geshtalt".

it reminds me of: a shark tooth, a dagger, a cross, a wind sail, but most importantly, my grandmother. i don't know why but all my connections to it are negative or dark. right now it still hasn't come off.

Archy Hamilton: Hurl me down the track.

FANCY

TO DO IN SUMMER:

HOW TO BLEACH JEANS:

Instructions

    • 1
Fill the bucket 3/4 full with warm water. Add 1 to 2 cups of bleach to the water. This measurement can be more or less, depending on how white you would like your jeans to be, but 2 cups should be plenty of bleach to get the desired effect.
    • 2
Put on the rubber gloves and drop your jeans into the bucket. Keep them as spread out as possible. The larger the bucket, the better. Make sure the jeans are completely submerged in the bleach solution.
    • 3
Allow the jeans to sit in the bucket for 5 minutes. Again, the amount of time can be more or less depending on how white you want your jeans to be. Stir the jeans slowly to make sure they do not soak in one position for too long.
    • 4
Check to make sure all the crevices are covered. Pull the jeans out of the bucket periodically for repositioning. You may need to use a sponge to dab the bleach solution directly onto hem lines and pockets.
    • 5
Pull the jeans from the bucket and hang on a drying rack. Place heavy newspaper or old towels under the rack, or you will have a bleached floor. Wait for the jeans to dry; repeat the entire process if needed.

Apparently i'm also a Prankster

so this is the second (!!) time that i found myself pranking this week.
first time was a couple of months back-

we were sitting in the school cafeteria and waiting for quite some time when my friend came up with an idea.
casually he said "hey, why don't we switch the salt and sugar?"

i was feelling quite daring and decided to go for it! i took some sugar from the coffee supply bowl, and quietly but quickly slipped off the salt cap and inserted the sugar. i had to put in a couple of bags but it looked exactly the same!!

i was with my friends and we waited patiently until about half an hour later, a senior comes and buys a sort of pizza. i saw him through a gap in between my friends putting tons of "salt", tasting it and then putting even more on. at last he gave up and cried to the guy in charge "why is this sweet? i just put tons of salt and i think someone switched it with sugar!"

i somehow stopped myself laughing.. :P

and then two days ago i decided to glue half a shequel to the floor at my school entrance. first time it didn't stick but second time my friend and I used a hot glue gun and then it STUCKK. really- stuck
we were in the middle of a lesson so we couldn't sit around and watch how people tried and tried to pick it up.
we went the following day and it was gone!!!! it was such a bummer! i mean, you could still see the glue marks and the places were the glue was ensconced in the glue. :P

CHICAGO APPLICATIONS

so right now we have a lot of opptional schools that i'm signing up to in the hope that one of them will accept me. there are three main option but that doesn't mean anything!

with all these applications, come a lot of assignments. put aside the fact that we're about three months late   handing it in (the forms were due Jan), so we have to do everything SuperSpeed, and i' had to write about four essays each and(!) answer a batch of questions - ughh

i'm enclosing this one essay that i did like . the restriction was 5000 words and most of the time i just hoped i'd reach that maximum characters, and really talk nonsense, but here i really had to shorten in!

!@$#@%#$%

one of many "final" copies.

!Good Luck

Describe a Project or Area of Study that has been Challenging to you and
Explain how you Grew From It

By Avigail Gilad

Moving to a new house is never easy, let alone if that house is in a different country. The project I have decided to write about is much more dominant and personal than any other academic project that I have had to deal with in the past. This lifelong project has enabled me to grow and mature more than any other
regular project would have.

My whole life has been one big move, settling down for a couple of years and moving on again. Even though I'm an Israeli citizen, I have spent only half my life living in Israel. These changes are challenging in a few ways-academically, to learn the language, to become acclaimed, to pack our home and to meet new friends. I am already used to all of these and consider it an advantage and a chance to grow. I wouldn't have been able to do any of this, however, without my parents who have helped me every step of the way
and still continue to support me in every way they can.

My first challenge was at the age of one, when my family moved for the first time. I don't remember much from our reassignment in Jordan as I was very small, but today I understand it was not so easy.
In addition to the "regular" challenges of moving, there was always an issue concerning the Arab-Israeli conflict. In general the relationship was smooth, but like always there were individuals that were more problematic. I learned in a Jordanian preschool, mixed with Jordanians and Israelis. With time there was a growing tension concerning the Israeli children.

At some point, the Israeli children moved out of the preschool and no other establishment would accept them. As a result, an Israeli nanny was brought to Jordan and an Israeli preschool was organized in the Embassy. Following a short amount of time, all the diplomats' families were vacated back to Israel due to safety reasons. The date of our deportation was scheduled exactly on my 4th birthday and my preplanned party had to take place on a military plane instead. As a child, I remember this as one of my most dominant birthday parties.

On the other hand, it was the start of an era of peace with Jordan and a lot of Israelis like my family took advantage of this in order to explore attractions such as Petra and the Jordanian bank of the Dead Sea.  On top of that, this was the first time I was exposed to an International community and to the interesting Arab culture.

The second challenge was my first year back in Israel which was filled with difficulties. My dad had remained in Jordan due to work, and as a child I remember living with my mum and waiting for my dad to visit every weekend. In order to soften the blow of moving, I joined my cousin's kindergarten to enable a better start- I at least knew one person. Quickly enough I was settled in and I loved my kindergarten.
Next was London, where I started learning in first grade.

Moving to London was more challenging that moving to Jordan. The biggest issue and difficulty of moving for me was learning the language. In order to overcome the challenge, I continued learning English in special classes at school, called EAL- English as another language. I went to an international school, therefore they had a well organized program which was intended to assist all the new kids from around the world learn English.
Furthermore, I used to read English books to enrich my vocabulary and I had other Hebrew speaking friends in my class that would translate for me. During the first year, they were my only friends, but by Second Grade I already could speak English fluently and I could communicate with the rest of my class.
The following three years were amazing; I became close to the English culture by learning horseback riding, watching Shakespeare theatre, being a member of the British Museum and travelling around the country. I started my violin addiction and became connected to the general world of classical music and concerts. I came back with the customs of drinking tea. I gained an incredible amount from this experience ranging from a more confident personality to a deeper sensitivity to different cultures.

Our next stop is Chicago but now I'm older, more mature and have a stronger sense of self. The hardships I have dealt with have enabled me to become more adaptable and more ready to welcome new beginnings. I have learned to give to and take from my surroundings in the utmost positive way. I have been able to grow from all these relocations by help from others and looking on the bright side. I look at these challenges as a chance to meet new people and build relationships. I now have friends from all around the globe, and I'm definitely looking forward to a fresh start in Chicago.

בכל מקרה, this was the case, וחטפתי תנומה של איזה שעה קלילה.

i'm such a kickass

okay, so two days ago (ish) was the first day of school after a looong passover vacation. exciting, right?
anyway, woke up normal at 7:00 am (okay, maybe a little later, so make that 7:20).. went out as usual on my bike, and then 50 mtrs from the house --splat!

i was going round a rubbish heap and couldn't be bothered to stop, so i came of the side walk and intended to board it again after the heap where there was a small gap with a ramp onto the side walk, but it was blocked by a parked car.
going on, and suddenly felt myself flying. unable to stop myself i crashed onto my face, my bag over my and my bicycle not so far away.. it stung, especially because i crashed straight onto my mouth/nose are into the concrete... luckily i dived right in front of a nice lady that helped me stand up and called my parents. i told her to ask for dad but it was no use (he's much cooler about the injuries) and 60 seconds later they both came running.

didn't cry!

dad and i went to the nurse and a dentist but they both told me there wasn't anything to do but wait. meanwhile while it clears up i have a badly puffed lip and a gruesome bump on it were i opened my lip (not too much blood).

i'm such a talent at these injuries! the dentist told me its unusual for girls to come to the clinic about stuff like that, cause they just don't get hurt like that, its mostly boys!!

injury timeline:

baby- fell on the edge of the oven and opened the corner of my eye

age 6- broke my arm climbing a tree at my cousin's birthday party, and falling off

age 11- opened my foot running over "cow barriers" (the one's that have a hole in the ground and metal bars over them, so that when the cows\sheep try to cross them, their hooves would sink and they'd get stuck. unfortunately, that was me getting stuck. i ran on it, my foot was caught and i fell flat forward on my leg. luckily no break, just stitching...

age 12- slammed the car door on my thumb. result- fingernail bleeding 24hr and falling off.

age 14- (last summer) got kicked my a horse (yes yes, i know...) no break- horrible scar. didn't cry ;)

15.4.12- opened my lip.

2013- ???

i'm such a TALENTED KICKASS
